Apple Sauce Cake Submitted by Eleanor R. Smith
This cake is moist and yummy, like the kind Grandma kept in the back pantry, In fact, this cake is best when it sits on the counter in an airtight container for at least 24 hours before you cut into it. And believe it or not, there are only 6 ingredients!
It’s a 3 layer cake (or six layers if you like to slice each one more time!) and quite impressive in stature and taste!
Ingredients:
3 cups of all-purpose flour
3 cups of sugar
2 sticks of butter (softened)
3 Large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 Quart of applesauce (preferably not too watery)
Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease and flour three 8 inch cake pans
Blend the first five ingredients together using an electric mixer. Put into pans and bake for 35 mins. Cool on rack.
If you like a very moist 6 layer cake, cut each layer in half. Place the first layer on the base of an airtight cake container. Spread applesauce across all of it, modestly. Repeat until all six layers are stacked. Take remaining applesauce and frost the top and sides. Cover tightly and let rest on the counter at least 24 hours before slicing and serving.
