"I
was at the Farmer's Market
this morning bright and
early and was not disapointed!
I have been looking forward
to this all week. Everyone
I asked this week said "there
won't be anything good
there yet". Boy were
they wrong! I got vegetable
plants that already had
lots of vegetables on
them, herbs in pots, green
beans, new potatoes, fresh
bread, jam, raspberries,
fresh baked muffins, a
tiny head of cabbage...
and a Farmer's Market
bag to put it in.
I will surely be back
next week. Thanks to
everyone who has made
this possible. I love
knowing where my food
is coming from and that
I am supporting my neighbors
(and saving a bundle of
money, too!)."

There are many things I
look forward to each year.
I can mark each of these
in a chronological order.
I look forward to Valentines
Day, my son’s and
my wife’s birthdays,
Independence Day, my wedding
anniversary, the opening
day of Georgia Football,
Deer Season, Trout Season
and Christmas. But, there
is one day I look forward
to with great anticipation.
The first day I can pick
a home grown tomato is a
time of celebration for
me and it has been a great
day for me for 50 years.
I love tomatoes picked fresh
from the garden. I like
them peeled and placed in
a biscuit. I like to eat
them with fresh vegetables
and cornbread. I like to
smother them under sawmill
gravy. My favorite way to
eat them is between two
slices of bread.
I guess my mom and her mom
gave me this love for the
tomato sandwich. It is a simple
recipe. You need two slices
of wheat bread or white if
you prefer. Spread onto the
bread a goodly portion of
mayonnaise. Cut one slice
of a large red or yellow tomato
and place on one slice of
bread. Add salt and pepper
to according to your taste.
Place the two slices together
and enjoy the sandwich with
a big glass of sweet milk.
There is nothing better on
a hot summer day
