We Want To Hear From You!
By JoAnne Leone
Thursday evening a few hundred people came to enjoy our first Annual Blairsville Bloomin’ Spring Garden Expo. They heard some great 30 minute seminars with onscreen presentations from area landscape specialists and Master Gardeners. They walked amongst the backyard crafts, amazing potted bushes and trees in full bloom, purchased strawberries, plants, and herbs. It seemed like everyone went home with some of the most unique colored iris tubers. Mothers around the region were going to be thrilled with the potted and hanging plants that were purchased that evening to be gifted on Sunday.
Then there were the aromas. Jimmy, from Ace Hardware had their “Green Egg” on demonstration. It was just a smoking away with samples of ribs, pork tenderloin and hot dogs. Across from him was Cindy King with her lip smacking Pasta Salad and Sloppy Joes. Oh, and there were plenty of people enjoying her amazing cream cheese filled chocolate cupcakes, too.
I saw lots of familiar faces and hugged a lot of folks I hadn’t seen since the market ended last season. That’s what is so wonderful about the market. Everyone sees old friends and makes lots of new ones at every visit. So, why did I wake up the next morning with the feeling that it all could have been so much more? It’s because you were not there! An event like this should have several hundred people, not just a few. Memorial Day Saturday (May 28 th), from 8am-1pm we are having our 1 st Annual Strawberry Jubilee at the Market. There will be strawberries to purchase, along with early crops, plants, and lots of crafters. So, we need your help to get out the word. We need to draw from all the surrounding area, as well.
Here’s how you can help. There is an event page on Facebook. Just search “Blairsville Strawberry Jubilee” and share the event with your friends on Facebook. Send an email to your friends with a link to our website at www.UCFarmersMarket.com. Mention it at your Club functions. Tell your neighbors over the fence.
Ok, I’ve asked for your help – so I’d like to give you an opportunity to tell me what you think about the market and our events. This is your chance to tell us everything you like, don’t like and what ideas you have for the market. Email us at UCFarmerMarket@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
